William Edward Kyle Colhoun was born in Devonport on 5 Jun 1872, the eldest of eleven children born to Arthur Colhoun, who was in the police force, and his wife Elizabeth Harkness. William spent 30 years as a representative for McNaughton Love & Co., travelling throughout Tasmania. He was a foundation member of the Commercial Travellers’ Association and secretary-manager for 24 years, before retiring in 1947. He was a justice of the peace and a life member of the Honorary Justices’ Association. He was a foundation member of the East Launceston Bowling Club and a member of St Andrew’s Masonic Lodge.

William Calhoun married Ada Blair in Launceston on 30 Dec 1903. Their three children were born in Launceston: Beatrice, 1906; Arthur, 1908 and Phyllis, 1914. William died aged 88 on 6 Jul 1960. His wife Ada had died in Sep 1939. They were buried with other family members at the Carr Villa Cemetery in Section F1 No. 490.
