Susan Grace Groom was born at Westbury on 20 Jul 1874, the fourth child of James Parker Groom and his wife Mary Anne Horne of ‘Kingsdon’, Deloraine. Her grandfather Alfred William Horne was police magistrate for Norfolk Plains in 1837 before moving to Deloraine where he purchased the ‘Bowerbank Mill’. When she was eight years old her mother Mary Anne died of consumption on 22 Nov 1882.

Susan married Alfred Lambert, iron-master, on 26 Feb 1896 at St Mark’s Church, Deloraine. They had three children in Sydney, NSW: Annie, 1898; Alfred, 1899; and Cecil 1901. Susan’s sisters Annie and Ida are also pictured in the Family Album. See The Examiner 23 Jun 2007, page 33.
