Notes:

Samuel James Woolley was born in New Norfolk in 1859, a son of Henry Collins Woolley and his wife Mary Ann Thompson. At the time of the Exhibition he was manager of EE Newton and Sons, 69 Brisbane Street, Launceston. He married Emma Jane McClenaghan on 24 Dec 1896. The couple had five children. The eldest, Russell, was born in Launceston 8 Mar 1898. The other four were born in Hobart: Rupert Henry, 28 Nov 1900; Ivy Kathleen, 10 Jan 1904; Colin James, 27 Jun 1906 and Madge, 22 Jul 1914.

Samuel Woolley was a foundation member of the Commercial Travellers’ Association in Tasmania and was on the first committee in 1900. He was one of the best-known boot travellers in Tasmania and for many years represented Blundstone’s of Hobart. He was a well-known figure on the Derwent bowling green. He died on 22 Sep 1939 aged 80 and was cremated at Cornelian Bay Cemetery.
