Maximillian Franz Rumpff was born in Launceston on 30 Nov 1876, the seventh and last child of Justus Jacob Rumpff, an accountant, and his wife Anne Catherine Stephenson. He and his sister Clementine were the only two of the children to survive into adulthood. His father Justus died in Aug 1894, taking his own life. In 1901 Maximillian married Florence Eva Petts Jones in Melbourne. They had one daughter, Iris Florence, who was born in Launceston on 15 Oct 1902. Max became known as Max Maxwell, an actor in Melbourne and Sydney and performed in many stage shows. He died of appendicitis on 21 May 1911 at a private hospital in St Kilda aged 35.
