Margaret Ann Anderson was born at Port Sorell, on 12 Jan 1871, the daughter of Ann and Isaac Anderson.

She commenced nursing training at the Launceston General Hospital on 1 Apr 1891. She gained her nursing Certificate with Credit on 16 Dec 1892 and resigned on 1 Aug 1894.
