Mrs Hannah Room was the second daughter of Robert Thompson (1803-1865) and Mary Chamberlain (1808-1896) who were married on 3 May 1832 at Great Dunham, Norfolk, England. Hannah was christened on 1 Feb 1835 at All Saints, Swanton Morley, Norfolk. Her father Robert, a carpenter, was baptised on 16 Oct 1803 at St Ethelreda’s Church, Norfolk. Her mother Mary, the daughter of blacksmith George Chamberlain and Elizabeth Comer, was baptised on 16 Oct 1809. Robert, Mary and their two daughters, Elizabeth and Hannah, came to Tasmania on the Derwent in 1837. They had seven more children in Launceston. Robert was employed by Richard Dry on his property at Patersons Plains.

Hannah married Daniel Room at his residence, Launceston, on 12 Apr 1851. Their three children were born from 1852 to 1856. Hannah exhibited paper and wax flowers, ornamental shells and seaweeds at the Tasmanian Exhibition . She was involved with various charitable institutions including the Girls Industrial School, Queen Victoria Hospital and the Church of England. Hannah died on 25 Dec 1910 and was buried in the Charles Street Cemetery.
