Grace Eileen Maddox was born on 13 Apr 1882, the eighth and youngest child of Dr William Gordon Maddox (1844-1916) and his wife Maria Grace Schultze (c.1849-1889). Grace was six years old when her mother died. She married Commander Henry Luxmore, RN, at the Holy Trinity Church, Launceston, on 15 Dec 1910. Henry was the second son of Colonel Luxmore of Ilfracombe, North Devon. They later lived in England. Grace’s father went over to visit his daughter in 1914, and died in Plymouth on 4 Nov 1916.
