This is possibly Frederick Blanchard Thomas who was born on 23 Sep 1870. He was the second of five children born to Blanchard Thomas (1842-1905), tide waiter for the Customs Department, and Jane Mary Smith (1848-1885) who were married on 6 Jun 1868. After Jane died aged 37 on 29 Jun 1885, Blanchard married Sarah Docksey on 26 Apr 1886. They had five children between 1887 and 1897.

Frederick went to New Zealand where he married Annie McKinery in 1905. He died in New Zealand in 1922 at the age of 53. His half brother, Arthur Frederick Blanchard Thomas, also went to New Zealand and died there in 1941, aged 54.
