Everard James de Bomford was born in Tasmania to Petre Isaac de Bomford and his wife Elizabeth Hopkins. He had two brothers, Edwin and Mervyn, and the family lived at ‘Illaroo’ off the Blessington Road past St Leonards. Everard became a journalist for the Tasmanian News and had an office in the Quadrant. He was the secretary of the Launceston Dramatic Club in the 1880s. He exhibited a suit of Japanese armour at the Tasmanian Exhibition on 1891-92. He donated the armour to the Queen Victoria Museum shortly before leaving Tasmania to live in the United States of America.

He was a correspondent in Chicago, then made his home in New Orleans, where he married Mary Shannon in Dec 1897. He was connected with the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, continued to work as a correspondent and had an active interest in the Grace Memorial Church in Hammond, Louisiana. He moved to Los Angeles for health reasons but succumbed to asthma on 23 Sep 1922 aged 56.
