Mrs Elizabeth Duncan Hallowes was born in the Calton District, Glasgow, Lanark, Scotland, the daughter of James Garroway. She married surgeon Herbert Chawort Hallowes on 28 Mar 1883 in the district of Kelvin, Glasgow, Scotland. Herbert is also pictured in the Family Album.

Their children, all born in Launceston, were: Georgiana, 23 Jun 1884-4 Oct 1885; Brabazon, 21 Aug 1885; Catherine, 3 Oct 1887-22 Apr 1888; Maud, 9 Nov 1888-3 Sep 1892; Geraldine, 1890-1976; Dorothy, born 30 Mar 1893; Mary, born 23 Nov 1894 and Herbert, born 28 May 1897.

The family moved to Ulverstone about 1898. Elizabeth died of kidney disease on 8 Dec 1907, while her husband was returning from a visit to England.
