Cyril Ernest Nicholas was born in New Zealand in 1881, the youngest of seven children of Edward Nicholas (1836-1917), storekeeper, and his wife Mary Ann Sidebottom (1839-1924). Cyril became an optician with rooms at 71 St John Street. He did not marry, and his mother lived with him at 179 Invermay Road in her last years. Cyril died aged 84 at the Launceston General Hospital on 27 Jun 1965. He was privately interred at Carr Villa in Section D5 No. 36, with the request that there be no flowers or cards. He was a loved uncle of all his nephews and nieces.
